It’s hard to believe that time has moved so quickly, but I suppose time flies when you’re having fun! And, I am having fun. David P Goode Architecture will turn five years old next month…
I launched this firm after coming to the realization that there is a better way to deliver architectural services to clients. My then 20 years of project management and firm management helped define a unique perspective on how we conduct our business: traditional firm hierarchies, egocentric attitudes, and a lack of understanding of the building process have left clients with a less than positive image of our profession. Quoting a popular television character, “If you don’t like what’s being said, change the conversation.”
There are many who believe our profession is dying. They could not be more wrong, or more short-sighted. In short, the profession is changing. Those who resist the change, or those who deny the change, are the ones dying within the profession. The conversation must change. With better technology, better methods, a deep understanding of building technology, and a sincere desire to help clients achieve success, I’m changing my conversation.
I love what I do, and the ability to do it “my way” brings a satisfaction that cannot be defined. I awake each day knowing that I’m going to make a difference in my client’s life…and that is a big responsibility.
To this day, I have yet to make a true “cold call” to find work. All projects have come through repeat clients or a direct referral, which I believe is a testament to the success of my conversation. I am grateful to the many clients who have provided tremendous opportunities. I look forward to many more five-year intervals…and many more happy clients.
